A reserve currency (or anchor currency) is a foreign currency that is held in significant quantities by central banks or other monetary authorities. The reserve currency can be used in international transactions, international investments and all aspects of the global economy, and can be used in emergencies where a country’s own currency has lost its value.

In 2021, Africa experienced 4 Military Coups: in Guinea, Chad, Mali, and Sudan. Military heads have sighted bad leadership as reasons why they ousted the democratic government, and claimed that democracy in their country has failed them.
